Read more: Publisher considering ads in ebooks | News | PC Pro http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/371191/publ ... z1dlcHquUEWould this be a problem for you? I know if I read a book, I don’t expect an advert to be present. So I’ll be sticking with paper if this catches on.

I think this could turn people off e-books/e-readers.
I've been thinking about getting a Kindle, and this kind of thing would put me off the idea completely.

It just did. I wouldn't buy a book with adverts in. I'd rather pay a few pence more and not have adverts.

Doesn't sound like it would be an issue in any of the books I would read. If I happened to choose a book where they could be present I would expect an option, and be happy to pay the full amount for a lack of adverts.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

It’s marketing people. Show them some white space, and they see a place to shove more of their message. Never mind that the space is enhancing an existing message. This is no different. It’s a captive audience - people reading with their attention on one thing. What better than to pop in some targeted advertising? Reading a book about the history of the camera? Hey - you may want to buy one! It is an idiotic proposition. I detest the way that adverts have to go everywhere and anywhere.

Putting content into a book without consulting either of author or editor seems like an idea that can end with cross words. But at least they are saying (for now) that they won't do it with fiction.
I wonder how long it will be before certain fiction authors start trying to sell their own ad space though?

See, you're already jumping ahead to stage two of their masterplan. Stage 1: Give you something undesirable, that they can sell to advertisers Stage 2: Charge you a premium to remove it again Brilliant!

Master plan fail. I meant I'd pay extra to get it in print without adverts.
How much cheaper are ebooks anyway?

I'd only consider it if it meant the ebook was free. You don't walk into the likes of Waterstones, look in any of the books and expect to see adverts. This is more akin to magazines and hence IMO would ruin a book.

+1 There are those things that you can buy called “magbooks” or “bookazines” (abhorrent words BTW) which appear to be produced by magazine publishers, have the vague appearance of a book, but look and feel like a magazine.
