I've found that socks in general don't last as long as they used to. When I was at uni, I had the same pairs of socks for around 4-5 years. Nowadays, some of them don't even last a year!

Jessops customer service (online) is so poor I have decided never to use the company again. That is all.

Have you called them, it's normally the best way to get a response.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

No. If they can't be arsed to answer their own online query form twice then I'd rather not bother. It's not like there aren't another 10 companies willing and waiting to take my money off me.

I hate using the phone and wish I could completely rely on the internets to get everything done, but I can't. A simple phone call is often the quickest and surest way of resolving a problem. The problem has to be dealt with immediately by phone, emails tend to sit around gathering electronic dust.

As above, I'll email once or twice and then just get on the phone. I find things move along in real-time on the phone!

Clients, eh?

beginning of the year, I build a new website for a client. Previous incarnation of the site was hand edited HTML, but they wanted better, hence asking me to do the work :D

So I build a little database driven store for them, along with a back end which lets them manage sections, categories and products. Part of the brief was for them to be able to edit the store’s contents. So I sent them off information about how it works, passwords etc..

Then I get an email - they want me to add products. And this is how it’s been going ever since. I get emails of what to add/takeoff/edit, and I’ve done it, followed by an invoice. Then this week, I get told that they need to be able toe fit the store themselves as they can’t afford to pay me. The site (wait for it) apparently only makes the £50 a month.

There’s an insight, especially at this time of year where I’d be expecting it to be making money hand offer fist (another similar site I work seems to double the previous month’s take in the run up to Christmas), so I’m doubtful it’s me making a shoddy site.

So, reminder notes of how to edit the site have been despatched, and I fully expect the “I’ve cocked it up big time” email in the next couple of weeks. I have felt that this particular client has needed hand holding anyway. I’ve seen her use a computer, and to be honest, it was like watching a child fumbling around the keyboard. What she needs is someone like me to keep the website in check while she does the trade shows and sells in those situations.

Also - never tell your web developer how much you are making if things are tight. Web developer may decide that you’re a risk and may feel that invoices may not be paid in the future. Mind you, I’ll find that out soon enough anyway.

Gah! I need to gather some pay slips to prove my incremental date and hence reclaim the £400 or so that I've been underpaid by.

I have saved almost every payslip since I started working (except maybe one or two here and there) and put it all in a plastic wallet which I can now not find.

EDIT: I've found the ones from when I worked down south

EDIT 2: I've now found the remainder wedged in between some books on my bookshelf. Why they were there, I'll never know though I wonder if I shoved them there in a hurry.

Set up a folder for all things financial and put them in there every month, as soon as you get them!

Here, I need them for the tax return each year, so it keeps me semi on top of the problem (my current payslip has been sitting on my desk at work for 3 days, I must remember to bring it home).

I have a folder which has vital docs in eg CRB check, degree certification, medical indemnity etc which is where I've been keeping my current payslips as needed them when moving from one place to another. Otherwise all of my payslips from my 4 years in hospital are supposed to be together.

Anyway, time to send off photocopies.
