Yeah, right, after only five years or so? I can count the amount of people I know with dedicated players on one hand these days

I still haven't owned a dedicated DVD player yet.

Does that mean you are discounting people with PS3's?
For the record I have a dedicated BR player.

Only when the (new) disk price drops from £15-20 to £10-12 in the supermarkets, not just for special offers

I don't know anyone with a dedicated (ie non-PS3) BR player, though I know a few who have dedicated PVRs (which can't play BR!).

I have a BR drive in my PC, but I'm not bothered about a BR player; even though ASDA is selling them at £40.

QFT.

Too expensive, DVD on a PS3 is a better price/picture quality ratio IMO.

Same here, and for general films, I haven't noticed much difference.

Also, I have a couple of thousand DVDs, and I haven't seen much lately that makes me want to buy any more. Tron might make my list, but I have much else which is really worth watching.

Dunno, it's only 32" 1080p surely I would see some difference? Well, I do see some difference, just not loooooaaaadddss.

IMO, a 32" tv isn't going to show the difference between 1080p and 720p unless you're sat far too close on it. I've got a 40" main tv and its about the border point with the layout of my living room.

There is a definite case that a lot of people don't have the domestic arrangements where they could have a setup where the difference is evident - living rooms too small, maybe a partner who doesn't like the idea of a large screen. I think the idea that someone not having a full HD setup is 'missing out' is utter cobblers (and an invention of av company marketing departments to hoot) because we all have our own criteria of what we need but I'm afraid the notion that, objectively, upscaled SD or 720p is 'as good' as full HD is simply not true. It may be 'good enough', which is fine.

Anyone watch the BBC program "Click" this week?

Fascinating bit from Japan where the reporter went with the local Japanese IT presenter to a huge store and said "where have all the 3D Tv's gone?" The Japanese guy said that the sales were very poor and were hardly selling any as the people preferred normal TV over 3D so they shoved them into a corner out the way
