OK, so a new trailer is out. This time showing the HD goodness that can be expected. The trailer is 720P, and has been thrashed through YouTube, but you can see a massive difference in quality.

The Dark Horizons page has comparisons between the DVD and the YouTube trailer.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

When I think that I’ve only ever seen the early series of TNG in either ropey old VHS or in whatever hellish NTSC conversion had been applied, I am really impressed by the quality of the pictures. And remember, what’s on that site is compressed beyond the call of duty. I would expect the HD 1080p picture to be stunning.

Converting the series to HD is going to be a big job - but it looks like it will be worth it.

The audio is way out of sync but I put that down to the trailer

Some shots look much colder eg Picard and Q. I kinda liked the old slightly-oversaturated effect of ST-TNG. But I plan on waiting for TNG nerds to pass judgement before I buy.

Also, my fave youtube comment so far:

Quote:
I simply don't know the risk of shutting down the beam

Nooooooooooooooooooo

Oh wait, George Lucas isn't involved in this release. Everything should be fine, then.

EDIT: Wow - it took me 10 attempts over 90 mins to post that and I ended up pasting line by line and then it by typing everything I'd written in the quote box.
