Always sad when someone dies so young. And perhaps it underlines that no matter how successful you are or how privileged your life is, when it comes down to it we're all human.

This is terrible news. The guy had a wife and two children.

I can't begin to imagine how they are coping with this.... particularly at this time of the year. I also can't understand how a young guy could find life so unbearable that this was his only solution.

May he rest in peace and may his poor family find some sort of solace in this dreadful hour.

I know this will make me unpopular by saying this, but I think people who commit suicide are really selfish. The pain it causes to family and friends (especially their children) is immense. Yes they need sympathy and help, but you should never condone suicide.
Having said that, at least he died in private. My father-in-law has had to deal with several bus/train drivers in the past who've had people jump put in front of them to commit suicide. It scarred the poor people for life. Maybe that's why I feel so strongly about it.

I think I agree with you there. I had no idea who he was, but I'm afraid my first thought when I heard he had left a wife and 2 kids behind was 'selfish prat'. That said, I am not much in a position to judge.

Also, it is a bit suspicious, that he was on a TV show the day before... :?

Depression is a nasty thing.

Some just feel a bit down for a while. Others don't take it so well.

I used to think suicide was selfish. I don't think that now. I suffer from depression, but it's nothing so bad it makes me look to end it all. Until a couple of years ago I didn't even realise what it was. I know others here also suffer from time to time. It can be a debilitating mental illness, and really needs to be treated properly, not just dismissed as "feeling a bit blue" and "pull yourself together".

It is selfish for the outsider, but the way I look at it is that someone has to be miserable to a point I can't even comprehend to kill themselves. The mind is a fragile thing.

It's all speculation at the moment, you can be classed as hanging yourself even if you happen to be laying on the floor tied to a door handle.

Some people do that for, well, extra kicks.

Still, speculation at the moment although if it was depression, well, I used to consider suicide selfish but some people can reach such until traumatised states that they believe the only way to end it is to kill themselves and that, in a bizarre way, it will be better for their loved ones.

It never is though of course, but then depression doesn't encourage rational thought.
