Britain may be without a fully operational aircraft carrier until 2030, according to a report published by the Commons spending watchdog.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) says two carriers being built will cost more, offer less military capability and be ready much later than planned.

It says the Royal Navy will be without a carrier until 2020, and it may not be fully operational until 2030.

20 years to build and commission a boat? Does it really take that long to put one together?

Quote:
"Rather than two carriers, available from 2016 and 2018, at a cost of £3.65 billion, we will now spend more than £6bn, get one operational carrier and have no aircraft carrier capability until 2020 - almost a decade."

No. More than likely UKGov decided that's how long they wanted to take to pay for it and BAE said 'well, that's when you'll get it then'.

But we've still got lots of Typhoons to fight those advanced air to air battles we'll have to undertake, and Tornadoes to zip in under the sophisticated antiaircraft defense systems our enemies will obviously have...

Well if we scrapped the billions we are going to waste (i mean spend) updating Trident then we could have a decent navy, airforce and army.

We need to decide if we want to be a "world power" or not - if we do then we need to spend the money needed to get there and not try to do it on a shoestring.

Although I like the idea of replacing Trident, we just can't afford it.

Rubbish, we have to afford it. After all, in the infinitesimally small chance that Russia or China might decide to attack us with nuclear weapons rather than just buying the entire country with the small change they found down their national sofa we have to be able to make sure we managed some form of retaliation, shortly after they've turned the vast majority of the UK population into radioactive ash.

Schools, hospitals and libraries are a small price to pay to ensure some level of satisfaction for the few blind, burned survivors.

"Clueless" just doesn't quite do it.....there are several other words I could use but I don't think they'd get through the filters.

We may as well just hang a "CLOSED" sign on the entire country, because at the moment, none of the f******* in Westminster have even the slightest clue what to do. A bunch of meerkats could do a better job.
