Gf's friend changed his name by deed poll to Bruce Willis Funnily enough Bruce Willis isn't Bruce Willis' real name

It would very quickly cease to be funny, but you could just change your name to the name of the sodding client who requested who requested the change in protocol in the first place.

When I worked at thew DHSS in the 1980s, the policy then was to absolutely not give out your name. I was told to make my signature illegible. People demanded names over the counter so they could lodge complaints, but we didn’t ever give them. It was (and probably still is) dangerous to let that kind of information out. A good number of people we dealt with were dangerous natters; you really don’t want a drug fuelled alcoholic finding out who you are.
Scary work. I don’t know how it all works behind the scenes at JobCentre Plus these days, but it’s all “customer focussed” so they probably do have to give out their names now.

Ok; if the client is reasonable and says he is happy with either first names of a pseudonym then I'm more than happy to be reasonable in turn.
If not, I will be changing my name within my working environment. There have been a number of entertaining suggestions put forward:
“I was about to ask you the same thing”
“My Mummy loves me”
“Spot the Dog”
“Fatal Exception Error”
“Syntax error at location #Dave”
"The agent formally known as Dave"
"Wendy"
"Aleph-null"
And my personal favourite:
"Can I talk to you about the love of Jesus?"

What about:
Agent Smith Mr Anderson
...or any of the pseudonyms from that franchise?
My thoughts on being "known" in a connected world are that it's very hard to be hidden if you have any form of online life, and with that knowledge you should do the best you can to only give out information you are comfortable with strangers knowing.
For my part, I have a pseudonym here that's not a million miles away from my name (it's just a shortened form of my surname); I have another pseudonym I use for my photographic online interest, but that is also allied to my real name (in that my Flickr, 500px, Posterous and Google+ accounts have my real name). I don't give out my address or contact details beyond the generic locations of South East England, Kent, Medway Towns or Chatham. I don't use my other half's name in online discussion: he is referred to as Best Beloved.
As far as I can tell, that's the best I can do. If someone wants to know all about me, they can probably find it if they dig hard enough. There's precious little I can do about that, and I accept that as a penalty for existing in a connected world.

Aragorn, son of Arathorn? Darth Vader? Chuck Norris? I wouldn't try messing with any of those three. But then again, if Chuck gets word, there could be hell to pay.

I like the Chuck Norris idea. The point is as far as they know it may actually be your name so they can't question it. Unless you want to underline exactly how idiotic they are being, in which case the more outlandish the better.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.
