The level of complaints speaks volumes about the complainants themselves. Do we really have that many Mexicans working in our public sector

When you see what he said in context on the One Show, he was being satirical. He initially said he agreed with the strike and what it stood for, and then said "as this is the BBC we have to be balanced and impartial, so I think all strikers should be shot ..." and so on. Taken out of context, a red rag to a bull and engineered to garner complaints and knee-jerk reactions.
My view is you should never, ever, take anything Clarkson says or writes as in any way meant to be anything more than publicity for himself. Smile, groan, complain or whatever, but move on. No news here, nothing to see, move along.
This. It says more about the people complaining rather than Clarkson himself IMO.

At least Clarkson was doing his job, unlike the people striking.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

You forget - these people don't know the meaning of "context" - it's got too many syllables in it.

They probably think context is one of those SMS messages telling you that you've been awarded £3,750 damages for that accident you never had.

Here is the transcript | | | | Quote: Matt Baker [presenter]: Well Jeremy, schools, hospitals, airports, even driving tests, have all been affected. Do you think the strikes have been a good idea?
Jeremy Clarkson [guest]: I think they have been fantastic. Absolutely. London today has just been empty. Everybody stayed at home, you can whizz about, restaurants are empty.
Alex Jones [presenter]: The traffic, actually, has been very good today.
Jeremy Clarkson: Airports, people streaming through with no problems at all. And it's also like being back in the 70s. It makes me feel at home somehow.
Matt Baker: Do you know anyone who has been on strike today?
Jeremy Clarkson: Of course I don't, no. What, somebody public service? No, I don't. No, absolutely. But we have to balance this though, because this is the BBC.
Matt Baker: Yes, exactly.
Jeremy Clarkson: Frankly, I'd have them all shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean, how dare they go on strike when they have these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?
Matt Baker: Well, on that note of balancing an opinion, of course those are Jeremy's views.
Alex Jones: Only Jeremy's views.
Jeremy Clarkson: They're not. I've just given two views for you.

I only discovered this last night, while in conversation with someone who actually watched the show. It's rather an important point, isn't it? I mean, twisting someone's words out of context and publicly condemning them for an opinion they never expressed is surely libellous? I mean properly in-court getting sued kinda libellous, although JC isn't really likely to bother with that.

I actually watched it and didn't think it would be taken so seriously.

Anyone who makes over the top remarks like that should have his pubic hair dipped in blood and be lowered naked into a piranha tank in front of his dog.

When I was at uni, I used to love JC's column in the Sunday Times to the point of buying a few of his books. But then I got bored of the same OTT crap he spouts. I didn't even wince when I heard about this.
