As it says in the heading.

Changing ISP & need to get a router but have no idea what's good & what's crap.
I want to connect my pc via cable & the kids will use wireless connection for their lappy's.

Something reliable & not costing the earth as i am no longer working..

thx in advance :D

yours wecrookie

Yep, Netgear all the way - in fact, anything except for Belkin... useless pieces of junk IMHO.

Only the cheap D-Link has been worse than the Netgear DGN I have.

I'll be going back to AVM Fritz!Box for my next router. With the integrated analogue and ISDN telephone connections, the upper model do VOIP to landline and normal telephone to VOIP into the bargain.

Was that in Germany? You use AnnexB over there, so the firmware isn't the same as in the UK where we use AnnexA.

The configuration was very limited. One of the things that the AVM and other routers I had allowed was to set up multiple time based blocking policies - youngest daughter should only have 4 hours internet access a day, which we set up to be a couple of hours after school and a couple of hours in the evening.

With the Netgear, we had to leave it as a single 4 hour block, as it only allowed one time rule to be applied.

The AVM range is also offers a lot more features for the money.

Going to moms 10th Dec and would like to get her a router ,now having been here in Spain for sooooo long
am I going to have problems setting one up .I think she is with Virgin media with a silly little mono box which my sister hogs all day ,I will buying mom a new lappy and I will have mine with me , Perfection would be a router with better distance so I can retire to my room when they are watching the soaps .

all sugestions gratfully received
Paul ;)

Need to know if it is cable or ADSL. I'm guessing cable if it's Virgin, in which case something like:

http://www.ebuyer.com/282257-tp-link-tl ... l-wr300kit

Important thing is the N300 spec - it really makes a difference to the wireless.

But be sure it's cable before buying.
