The downer is the expense, both initial purchase and the cost of the O2 tariff. I cannot justify upwards of £30 a month on a phone. :(
It's what I'm paying now. I don't think I've ever got a free upgrade to a mobile 'phone anyway, so a little upfront cost to the handset is something I'm already used to doing when upgrading.
I'm quite excited about it.

On my work PC, (WIndows XP SP3 running IE6) Tim's avatar is a grey box with the words "user avatar" written in it.

Probably means the site he's using to host the image is blocked by your work.

"User Avatar" is the alternative image text (i.e. the text that shows if the image can't load). IIRC I think you can change the text to be what you want.

I am not sure why they made the cpu faster. Anybody know why this is needed?

From the videos on Apple's website, it will mean applications launch almost instantaneously. On my iPhone, applications take anything up to five seconds to launch, which is quite frustrating.

I'm also quite impressed with the camera's focus. You can touch a section of the screen when taking a photograph and the camera will ensure that bit is in focus.

I just can't believe I'm not allowed to upgrade until the end of my contract, which is about 12 months away :(

Peter.

You ARE allowed to upgrade, you just have to buy out your current contract.

Oh right, I never realised that. Does that mean it would cost me around £420 (12 months at £35.00) to upgrade? Plus I'd have to sign into a new 18 month contract I assume.

Peter.

Which takes the piss as it was implied that we could upgrade when new iphones come out (as we did from the first one).

Without spending stupid amounts of money I can't upgrade until January 2010, in June 2010 there's be another new version so why upgrade in January,
You'll be in the same boat next year when the new one comes out.

I've seen that Apple are letting Leopard users upgrade to Snow Leopard for $29.00, which seems a very good price. I can't see such a deal in the UK, unless you purchased your Mac this week :(

Peter.

In all honesty, I don't know Peter.
Call 'em and ask?

I think I will. I'll do it when it's released next week, because I imagine they won't be overly knowledgeable until then.

Peter.

I'm quite accustomed to keeping my handsets for around 3 years anyway, so for me personally that's not going to be a problem.

I wouldn't read too much into that yet.

The Apple UK site lets you sign up for a notification when 10.6 is released. There's no indication of price, but I can't see how they can charge the full price for it when it's been announced at $29.

I'll wait until September and find out.

Don't forget the family pack for $49

It should be a similar price seems current leopard prices are $129 and £83 (this is a comparison of US and UK prices, we all know that it's like pulling a rabbit out of a hat when it comes to US UK conversions)

It's different with owning an iphone, you need to upgrade to the new one. It calls to you, making you upgrade. Especially when they put features in that need new hardware.
