That windmill is pointing the wrong way. Gearbox probably couldn't the revs in reverse.

I was under the impression that in severe winds they were supposed to be locked into position so they don't rotate at all.

We had 103mph winds here last night. I haven't seen any structural damage in the area, yet.
The day before yesterday, a trailer was flipped over by a side wind and smacked into the side of an oncoming car. Luckily nobody was hurt and just some light dents along the side of the Touran which was hit.
