Moaning and criticising is all I have left. What else can I do? I don't have any power to change any of this mess.

Okay, aside from wishing for a massive meteor to come in and give us better sense of perspective, how about we just write off all the debt? Clean the slate. Forget about trying to repay massive deficits, which seem aimed more at making poor people even more miserable and dejected, just forget all about them. Start over.

It's the one thing I've not heard any of the mainstream politicians come up with. They seem quite content with their lot, so screw the rest of us.

Now, let's see how you edit and twist that one. ;)

I call that the Etch-a-sketch solution. :D

I think that wiping the slate clean would only be worthwhile once we have adopted a different system. If you shared all wealth and lands equally from tomorrow then there would bankruptcy and foreclosure within the not too distant future.

DC is a narrow minded knob who has the backbone of a wet kipper.

He has no idea, not that any of the rest of them do. Sarkozy is just playing his cards for French elections and Merkel is busy having Deutsche Marks made just in case as she wants to put forward the option of countries leaving the euro but remaining part of the EU.

Funny the tune the LibDems are playing, a completely different one to the one they would be playing if they weren't in power.

Aye, it's a shame things have to fall to such a childish pathetic level. The papers seem happy to do so. I'm sure the rest of the EU would be glad to see the back of us and that attitude. I wouldn't blame them in the slightest.

Yesterday's Sun was particularly virulent. I am, well, horrified that such inward-looking xenophobia pervades our society today. We have been stiffed.

Yup, that's how I feel about it too.
The only positives I can see in the future are if our currency becomes so weak the likes of China and India start using us for manufacturing.

the only thing we have to do with the EEC is trade
(we signed up to the EEC nothing else)
the rest they can do themselves without us

most people in this country (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) consider themselves 'British' not European and i can see no reason for that to change ...

I think it has.
I was photographing a Christmas event for a local language school, and their main stream of students coming over to learn English and about the UK are from China, Taiwan, Russia, Nigeria (a recent but growing addition) and Korea.
These courses are anything but cheap too, and don't include things like accommodation and food, which are charged on top along with the extra social events.
Put it this way, my friend saved £10k over the summer working for the organisation at a middling sort of level...
