The Mac App Store was launched this year, and it has certainly highlighted many more apps for the Mac. The iOS App Store is fairly mature now and it still allows people to find new and innovative apps.

I'd like to hear your favourite Mac & iOS apps from 2011, be they old and trusty, new and innovative, or just really convenient time savers.

Nominate as many as you like from any of the following areas:
Productivity & Utilities
Social Networking
News
Games & Entertainment
Creative (Photography/graphics/design)
Education & Reference

Nominate and in 10 days (22nd Dec) I'll create a new thread for voting. We'll have the best in class, plus best overall.

Productivity & Utilities
Printopia by eCamm - the missing weapon in the iOS arsenal

Social Networking
Tweetbot by AppBots - makes Twitter almost palatable

News
Reeder by Sylvio Rizzi - I use it on all three platforms

Games & Entertainment
Portal 2 by Valve - In stages funny, intriguing, infuriating, staggeringly beautiful. No, it's not my other half, it's Portal 2 ;)

Creative (Photography/graphics/design)
Sketch by Bohemian Coding - Exactly what a Mac OS graphics app should be.

Education & Reference
TED by, well, TED. Time spent listening to smart people talking about the things that fascinate them is never time wasted.

I haven't bought or downloaded any new apps on the iPhone this year (and on my WP7 and Android, I've just downloaded the key apps I had on my iPhone). On the Mac, I've bought Apeture.

I'll put that forward, it is great. I printed a book for my girlfriend's birthday. The process was easy and the results were very professional.

Nice idea. Here's my 2c...

Productivity & Utilities
Evernote - not the sexiest UI, but I like being able to use it on Mac, iPod and work PC.

Social Networking
Twitterrific - the best-looking Twitter client around. (Sadly no longer works on my 1st gen iPod touch).

Games & Entertainment
Not sure if this counts as an "app", but Steam impressed this not-really-a-gamer.

Creative (Photography/graphics/design)
Aperture - can't beat it for the price.

Education & Reference
Sky Safari - for the astronomy fan.

Sorry, don't have links handy.

Shall we add a Razzie entry for worst apps?

Productivity & Utilities
iOS - iNet by BananaGlue - A great way to see what's on your network. Also functions with the likes of iSSH to connect to other computers.
OS X - It's got to be TextMate by MacroMates - It's not been updated in a while and there are rumours of it being killed off, but it is still my number 1 GUI text editor.

Social Networking
iOS - Tweetbot by Tapbots - Nice Twitter client
OS X - Twitteriffic by The Iconfactory - Simple and minimalist

News
iOS & OS X - Reeder by Silvio Rizzi - The best way to view your Google Reader subscriptions

Games & Entertainment
iOS - JetPack Joyride by Halfbrick Studios - A superb game, very repetitive, but extremely addictive.
OS X - Another nomination for Steam.

Creative (Photography/graphics/design)
OS X - Pixelmator - An excellent image editor, very Mac orientated.
