http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and ... x--1045342I doubt I'd pay any company £30+ a month for anything, but that's just me , thoughts?

I'm paying Tesco (O2 network) £10 a month for pretty much unlimited texts and 'net, and some sort of free minutes package that I never come close to using anyway...

I buy my phones, then get a SIM only contract.

I think I may well do that in the future. Certainly when my current contract runs out in April I'm going to keep the phone and go SIM only.

Likewise. I still have a phone from a few years back, I don't need to keep changing but may just pick up a smartphone and go sim only.

I went for the contract as in the old days, that was a better deal. I'll certainly re-think that now as I'd independently come to the same conclusion as they guy who wrote the article.

I pay £20 a month for an o2 iPhone SIM only tariff. I bought my iPhone direct from Apple. It worked out cheaper that way compared to the contracts.

That gets me thinking as I'm with O2 and pay a whopping £35/month for my iPhone.
Now the contract runs out Feb 2012 so very tempted to go Sim only as only use phone for emails, a little bit for the web and the odd call.
Three Mobile looks good on their Sim Only on their Sim 100 contract.
Anyone else with them or recommend a good deal?

O2, PAYG. I lob a tenner their way for internet access, which I do use a lot. My mobile is more of a small pocket computer that jet happens to do phone calls from time to time.
I fail to see the point of lobbing £30+ a month the way of the mobile companies based on my small usage use. I bought a 4S the other week - that’s going to be with me for a good 3 years or so. It’s a cheaper option than getting one on contract.

I pay £21.50 pm with O2 for my Samsung Galaxy S with 100 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB and tbh, apart from sometimes using a few extra minutes occasionally, the only issue that I find is that I sometimes appear to get charged when I send long texts (up to 450 chars) instead of losing three from my allowance!!! Nonetheless, I never go over the next level of tariff with my minimal extra charges, so it is still the most cost-effective way. Now that I have a smart phone, I am going to go SIM only if I haven't wrecked it when my two years is up. My last phone is the first one that has lasted to replacement without being damaged or completely knackered. Although I have been impressed as each new type of phone has come along, I don't see me being desperate to upgrade to the latest smart phone all the time.

Hmm Virgin have just said they will give me 50 free texts a month As my average bill with them is between £4 -£6 per month I guess that will save me a £1 or so
