I need to remove what I shall refer to as a Zombie Bonjour on my Dad's PC.

An old version of iTunes (7 or there abouts) installed bonjour. At some point the Bonjour gubbins has been deleted but has left a service entry that's visible in the Task Manager as a Stopped service. However, the Bonjour folder is no present and it doesn't show up in MSCONFIG. I assume there is a rouge registry entry kicking about but I've never gone into the registry before so some pointers would be most helpful.

I can see why iTunes is regarded as a bit of an abomination on Windows.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Very much a case of 'Do as I say, not as I do'.

on topic: have you tried going through Control panel > Admin Tools > Services? that should tell you where the executable associated with the service is being stored, but im not sure if you can uninstall it from there.

off topic: thread title reminded me of this

Yes I tried that first. It initially pointed to an empty folder so I deleted the folder as well. It then pointed to a folder that no longer existed.
In the end CCleaner worked nicely.

The whole machine is a bit of a mess to be honest but that more to do with my Dad's insitence on keeping software he doesn't need 'just in case' (every version of office from 97 to 2010 is on there as far as I can tell) not to mention a huge pile of what appear to be random TEMP type files. I was tempted to vape the lot with CCleaner but I ran out of holiday plus if I broke it it would naturally have been entirely my fault and nothing to do with the 3/4 year accumulation of junk on there

A project for my next visit to the parents perhaps.

Do you think it's gone for good, or is it a case of "au revoir, bonjour"

Sorry, couldn't resist.
