In batteries where nickel/cadmium is used, cadmium is a toxic heavy metal. It's easy reclaim, I'm lead to believe, but it's nasty stuff.
There's an interesting (if dated - Lithium Ion batteries aren't mentioned) here - http://www.transportation.anl.gov/pdfs/B/239.pdf
So, just as with the mining, you're still dealing with the nasty stuff, and how efficiently you can reclaim it is crucial.

It appears that lithium technology is where it's at for batteries, or as far as I can ascertain.

Either way, handling toxic heavy metals aside, apparently there isn't as much in the way of show-stopping issues with battery recycling as I thought!
That said, there appears to be precious little out there on the subject of the recycling process and it's ins and outs.

Ta for the heads up. I'll have to watch it on iPlayer when I get home.

The BBC would advise you to avoid watching Top Gear if you own a caravan. Or are Mexican. Or Indian. Or have one eye. Or are Scottish. Or are the Minister for Transport. Or make 'enforcement cameras'. Or are American (even if you're not fat). Or Welsh. Or from Yorkshire. Or are a woman. Or, in fact, a man.

In fact, we've now discovered that at some point in the series Top Gear will insult pretty much everyone. If you think that a middle aged journalist with a dodgy back and categorically terrible hair taking the mickey out you is something out of you think is worthy of making an international diplomatic incident over, we suggest you go and watch something more tedious instead.

A BBC spokesman didn't say, earlier.

I think 'THINGS WE NEVER EXPECTED TO HEAR ON TOP GEAR' is possibly an ideal suggestion for the Mock the Week final round.

I do love Lambos, but yes, that Noble is gorgeous. Another one for the Lottery win garage.

Top Gear is like The Wind in the Willows. But with three Mr Toads.
