Has anyone ever done any beyond the standard crane that everyone does? I bought my little sister an origami for kids book and I've been using the paper and finding some more complex patterns and stuff. Anyway, I've just folded this Dragon and I'm quite pleased with it. Also, search TED.com for origami. I may have to start getting into it a bit more. It would be nice to get to a point where I can create my own creations.

I made a world record attempt for the largest origami penguin. We weren't awarded it though for the lack of witness testimony. Gutted. If your Google-fu is strong, you should be able to find it out there...

The only thing I can make is a "water bomb" - a very nice paper cube with a little hole in the top. I learned it when I was very young. Is it real Origami when there are "Wooden batons inside to keep it upright" ?

It was in need of structural reinforcement to get it standing, however it was folded to the usual pattern. As we begged the paper from a supplier for nowt, it wasn't entirely what we wanted. Not enough long fibres, very pulpy, shiny and not very stiff.

I remember our gran teaching us that. It was a ball but we started to fill it with water instead, much to her dismay! Back when Microsoft Pulisher was around, it used to have templates and guides on making origami stuff.

My mate makes loads of things. His favourite is still the crane, he likes to make really small ones (only a couple of mm long). He also has a foot hight Yoda.

I agree that some of the very basic models that everyone learns can get very boring. Having said that, they are nothing compared to what can be made... Emperor Scorpion - one uncut square of paper Koi - again, one uncut square of paper (including the 400 scales)

Well, I thought I'd try something a little more interesting... I like it Oh, also, it was done with normal paper that is far too thick for origami was really hard to thin down the legs. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=53.842585,-1.532635

it's just a generic beetle. Actually, it was a design that was removed from the site because it was too generic. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=53.842659,-1.532521

Ok, so I could really get into this... T-rex And a size reference photo of the beetle. I've ordered some proper paper for about £5 on amazon. Should be fun. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=53.842560,-1.532635

Was messing again tonight. Trying to come up with a nice gift for Xmas for a friend. (Holly for those who know of her) Anyway, she likes making stuff. She also likes photography. She's made a couple of things before for my bday etc... Anyway, was trying to find an origami box that was nice, not really simple (to fold) and could hold something. These are a couple I found tonight... First looks simple but the corners lock together making it quite strong. The flaps lock together to form a lid. The second is a lot more complex and the "petals" are the colour of the paper. Those are the only two I've found that aren't just a standard box and capable of holding stuff. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=53.842525,-1.532589
