The Germans decided, just before Christmas, to remove the Child Porn blocker from the "German Internet". Basically, sites which were accused of harbouring child pornography were blocked, with German visitors ending up being redirected to a government run block page.

The German government agreed that the "service" isn't working, the pornography keeps moving and they have to block more and more sites, and using things like TOR gets around the block.

Instead, they have decided that, instead of blocking access to the sites, they will actually go after the owners of the sites and get the sites taken down.

One up for common sense.

It's more concise and efficient than our UK internets.

As in the firewall around the incoming data lines into Germany filters requests from German based IPs and redirects those requesting known child porn sites to a holding page - basically the same as the Great Firewall of China or the UK system.

By that, I meant that the changes only affect German Internet users, not the whole world. But they decided that this was unconstitutional and breaks the idea of the Internet and decided to tackle the problem head on, instead of hiding behind technology that could restrict citizens from seeing legitimate sites, while doing nothing to stop those really intent on obtaining such material, they will go after the hosters of such material and have their sites taken down by legal means.
