Also, my socks stink. I think I should buy some odour eaters.

No, although I think it was V and Pineapple tonight.

With Coke it doesn't taste right anymore somehow, though I can confirm Asda vodka's as good as Smirnoff...

We are the first generation ever to have to deal with the knowledge that that shameful drunken argument or that very private video will always be on someones desktop..

From this article about Harry Potter at the beeb.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Bull-crap.

If there's one fact about data storage, it's that unless you spend your life making multiple backups, you can kiss your critical work data goodbye. The guy in the article probably has nothing to worry about!

Sounds like the file is backed up, in many locations.

Tilt the camera upwards. Personally, I think it's more likely to be aliens.

Anyone here heard of Raspberry Pi?

It's a tiny embedded system about the size of a credit card, running an ARM11 based SoC being produced by students at Cambridge Uni and Broadcom, which is capable of playing 1080p video via HDMI and basic ARM compatible games like Quake 3. It has USB ports, a composite video and a 3.5mm audio jack for analogue output, and an SD card slot for storing and loading the OS from, with pre-loaded Debian or Fedora SD cards being planned for launch, but of course you can make your SD cards with whatever OS you like. The boards haven't been put on sale yet (expected by the end of the month according to Wikipedia), but apparently they hope for them to cost around £25 for a version with a LAN controller and 256mb of RAM. I'm certainly going to get one, either for a nifty little PVR-type thing or for something to practice software development on. For the price, I could probably get two :P

I heard them being interviewed on Radio 4 on the drive home from work at the end of last year, and it's a great idea.
The point of the scheme is, hopefully, encourage young people into proper coding. Apparently, there's been a move away from learning a language into using an app to build with, and while that's fine for a while it breeds a skills gap. A lot of the great coders that the UK produced grew up on and around computers that presented you with a foreboding >_ (or something similar) rather than a shiny happy desktop, and the feeling is that we're losing that inquisitiveness in children that made them think 'what else can I get that flashing _ to do?'

thanks, i hadnt heard that interview :D Link if anyone else is interested

thats the exact reason why im getting one: being a mere 20 years old and only getting into computers about 5 years ago, i missed the entire Commadore/Spectrum/Amiga/Acorn era of user-programmed machines by a large timespan. but its always been something that has been of interest to me, and this seems like a pretty easy way of getting into it :)

I had my first introduction to coding BBC Basic at about 7 years old.
