Hello,

Please do not install security update 2012-01 OSx.6x if you are using any apps that rely on rosetta. They will not work as expected afterwards.

Includes apps like office 2004, earlier dreamweaver, apple works, 4d 2004 etc.

Reports include crashing apps, not being able to print (We have experienced this in 4d) apps not loading.

If you use time machine there is a fix, reinstate the following folder from before the software update:

/System/Library/Frameworks/Application Services.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/

Bit surprised apple let this one through .. software update will automatically install this update if you let it.

HTH someone.

Didge

Presumably that's offered to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 users, yes?

I've also heard of some Lion users having problems with the latest 10.7.3 Delta (incremental) update, more info here. It does seem that Apple's legendary attention to detail is wandering somewhat lately!

Correct 10.6.8 user will be offered this update.

I haven't updated any of our lion machines yet .. may hold off ..

No problems reported with the Combo Update, just the Delta version (i.e 10.7.2 >> 10.7.3).

Download the 10.7.3 Combo Update from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1484
(an eye-watering 1.2Gb though!)

had massive problems with updates (security) in SL (it blow my system out of the water) and i will not downgrade to lion 10.7.x
so after cleansing the system with a linux install have reverted back to original install disc 10.5.6 (updated to 10.5.8)

this is where i will remain until i can replace all the home systems (as they go bang) which will run linux and linux only

our 3 mac minis which have problems at this time (once backup is done) they will revert to 10.5.6 (then update to 10.5.8) and they will be replaced as they expire

end of transmission ...

Why's this the first we've heard of the problems?
What caused the issues?

Snow Leopard and Lion and early iMacs and Mac minis don't seem to get on.

Step daughter's Mac mini with SL is unusably slow since the last 2 or 3 updates.

My iMac runs like a complete dog with Lion.

Only the eldest stepdaughter's MacBook seems to be running fine with Lion - it is also the only machine with 4GB RAM (the iMac can't ge expanded beyond 3GB). If it weren't for the fact that the main thing I use the iMac for is Apeture, which I bought from the AppStore, I'd downgrade it back to Tiger or Leopard.

Apparently, Apple have released a replacement for the Snow Leopard 10.6 Security Update 2012 001 (Version 1.1) which fixes the problems with Rosetta apps...

Apple fixes Rosetta problems with new security update <- clicky

As I'm on Leopard, I can't confirm this obviously, but I've read that it corrects the problems people had with the initial update (Version 1). Question is, are you brave enough to install it now!
:D

Dave: Have you tried downloading and installing the 10.7.3 Combo Update? I've heard from another Mac forum that it's fixed a lot of the issues they were having with slowness since they installed Lion. Not saying that it will work for you, but might be worth going for the Combo version rather than the Delta version (of course, it's a 1.2Gb file so I can understand your reluctance!).

I have. I haven't had a chance to really use the iMac since. I'll report back.

But Lion seems to be Apple's Vista.

I'm on the latest version now and not had any problems.

TBH I really like Lion and haven't had any problems with it at all.

The only issues I have had were hardware issues.

Since Lion upgrade Preview crashes constantly when exiting after making changes to an image. It really pisses me off.

I've installed the combo update (through Software Update) on both of my Lion boxes without any problems (2011 Mac Mini, 2011 iMac).
