Aye, we have a friend of a friend in the business so I think we'll be giving him a call this spring/summer Besides the pain of painting them they get pretty manky on the inside now if we have any clothes drying or the like so we could do with some pasticy stuff .

That's Springtermitis that is. Every teacher gets it, usually every year. It's because Spring term is by far the worst; the kids are miserable, the weather's [LIFTED], there's nothing to look forward to, no end in sight and everyone gets sicker and less well until the point sometime in early March where you realise haven't had a free period in weeks. But you keep chipping away and then someone tells you the Easter holiday is 4 days away and suddenly things don't seem quite so bad. You'll get there

What is the f***ing point in my turning up? | | | | |
That sounds vaugely like my experience when I signed on after leaving university. Lets see if we can find anything. Nothing local so in the end they tried the entire country. Was I interested in a job working on a rubbish dump near Carlisle? Oddly enough I wasn't, although if the jobs market was like it is now I might have had a different viewpoint. The jobcentre just wasn't really set up to find jobs for graduates (chemists in particular).

Now, I am generally in the "hate HDR" camp, too. However, I have seen some stunning tone mapping that has really enhanced an image. I find it works best when it's subtle and applied to bring out details in a landscape or architectural shot. I can't be bothered with fannying about with software to achieve it, so I leave it to others. The stuff I really really hate, though, is where someone has desperately tried to salvage a mediocre photo by blowing it apart with HDR effects.

I agree entirely Heather. What I don't understand is why photographers think it's necessary to apply HDR to any of their images - unless to enhance an image that has not been taken properly? Even light application of HDR I don't like. Play around with the basics by all means but do no more than you would if processing in the darkroom.
I'm not slow to apply the odd bit of cloning (out) though - another hot topic!

HDR is a technique that requires planning. You have to take several images at different exposures which are then mapped together in software later. Done well it's barely noticeable. Done badly, it's atrocious.
I get a distinct impression that many so-called HDR images I see are single shots that have been blown apart in post-processing. The psychedelic ones like that are the ones that I dislike the most.
It's the emperor's new clothes to me, but some people seem to like it. It's not a new technique, having been around virtually since the dawn of photography.

Yeah all is well, thanks. I got a call from the school yesterday, Adam had a suspected concussion. So we spent a few hours sitting around in St Mary's, until someone had a prod around before pronouncing him hale and hearty. This morning's trip is one of Cam's regular appointments, thankfully also at St Mary's. They had a habit of insisting we attend Southampton Hosptial, which is a major PITA, but we only have to go over there a couple of times a year now to see the specialist.
