I note that the iPhone will allow idiots to drive their cars into a field*, ditch, river or along railway lines. TomTom will be selling their “Suicide by Car” app for the iPhone 3.0 OS. Hmm - I am in two minds. On long journeys, I tend to have a navigator in the passenger seat who can read maps (and pay for tea and cake at service stations). My car is used more for jollies than regular commuting, so there is usually both of us. I may get a copy of the software, but it will not fully replace the usual methods of navigation, especially as TomToms don’t seem to be able to produce cups of tea yet. *I note with curiosity that a TomTom is not always required for such foolishness. Some people choose to do this without any prompting from a machine. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1104

Sounds like a good idea. Saves me having a satnav in the car.

TomTom will do a holder as well which will enhance the GPS of the iPhone, and will keep it charged up.

I've tried TomTom on my 'phone, it is okay, but the time I got lost in Bremen with my boss driving, I ended up using Google Maps, that worked much better...

It didn’t look like it in the keynote. They were talking about their own maps.

Does the holder contain a speaker as the iPhones own won't be loud enough?

Nope, you have to purchase maps, at least on other mobiles. They use their own maps, not Google's.
I only got 1 free map...

I think it either amplifies or has holes to allow the sound to get through. This is a rather elegant non powered solution: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/aircurve
