The tameness of Adele's albums

a couple of good songs, one outstanding song, a lot of drivel, and some questionable singing in some of them, like pub singing sometimes, like off key and everything.

One of my friends on Facebook occasionally posts spoof Adele quotes.
I love them.

Quote:
"of course the photo of the rotting foetus on the cover nearly shelved the album the record company went [LIFTED] [LIFTED]" - Adele (2011 Interview with Class war magazine)

Quote:
"the first time i listened to Black Sabbath....oh my days, the power of that band destroyed me...i had to go and skate FAST!" - Adele January 4th 2012

Quote:
"get some low angle trucks and run them as loose as you can with big squishy bushings on a top mount" - Adele 2012

Quote:
"I love LSD and listening to Hawkwind.....Space Ritual is a massive influence on my music" (Adele in 2011)

I called my dad on Monday and he said that my mum had a scan that looked suspicious. The doctors are now doing more tests to determine if it is bad or not.
If she has to go to hospital, I will have to go back home to take care of my sibling for a while as she is only 7.

Question, should I warn work now or wait?

Depends on your employer and your attitude. If it was me and my employer I would be happy to inform them well in advance as they're flexible and very forgiving.

Just had Dad on phone. It's bad news and my mum is going into hospital on the 7th of March.

I'm sorry to hear that, but the good news is that she's going into hospital. I imagine things wouldn't improve if she wasn't.
Fingers crossed for you all. :)

That blog post has made me angrier than I've been in a long time.

I am starting to get really pissed off with that brand of particularly horrid, pseudo-feminist arse.

Really - the general point she's making...

Quote:
Here’s some advice for guys: If a woman, particularly a complete stranger, can literally not get away from you, that’s not a good time to proposition her. If you’ve got her trapped in a small space or are between her and her escape route, don’t imply, on any level, that you’d like to do things to her body. Just don’t.

Why? Because she doesn’t know if you’re a good guy or not and she’s trapped in a space suddenly with someone who doesn’t care about how safe she feels, and in this particular case, has already intentionally ignored her stated wishes. Why on earth would she think you’re not going to ignore it when she says NO? There are lots of opportunities to express interest in ways that don’t feel incredibly dangerous to a woman — if you put yourself in her shoes and think, “Would this seem safe if I was a woman who might get raped by a strange man?” If the answer is anything but, “Yes,” DON’T DO IT.

...would seem to be good advice. :?

On the surface it looks like good advice. But it's not good advice. At all.

It's just as arrogant and sexist as what she claims to fight against. She arrogantly gives advice to men without ever considering the possibility that she's as clueless about men as they are about her. She makes wild derogatory assumptions about "men" i.e. all men. And she never, EVER considers even the vaguest possibility that the woman in question may have given out a signal that was mis-interpretable as an opening.

Secondly, it's a bit hard to swallow after recent protests.

A policeman quite correctly tells women that they could decrease their chances of being attacked by dressing modestly. Suddenly we have marches all around the globe.
Meanwhile, I have to blindly accept that I have to spend the rest of my life trying my level best not to act like a rapist. But that's okay because I'm a man and therefore it's all my fault.

Lastly though, and most importantly, she doesn't realise the farcical nature of her position. The "guys" doing the damage - the players, "gangstaz" and other assorted pricks - won't be changed in the least by what she says. No - the men who will heed this advice are the ones women need to meet; the ones who would make great friends and spouses if someone would just give them a chance, who already struggle around women and who, because of this tosh, their self-esteem just wilted a little bit more.

But it's okay to dance on the grave of many men's self-confidence. That's fine because we have to protect teh wimminz.

[Sorry for the (probably nonsensical) rant but this touches a very raw nerve indeed]

Erm, I think you've read a little too much into that Tinny.

It's the same for horses, you can stroke them on the head when out in a field, but do it in a corner and they're likely to flip out (maybe like a ninja).

I suppose it's the same in any situation when you're faced with someone stronger than you potentially being able to control your space, it's not the time to suggest "anything".

I stopped talking to children a long time ago because I don't want to be labled a paedophile. I'd better stop talking to women now incase I get labelled a rapist.

Well I guess it might be OK if it's been arranged by their parents and they're formally shaparoned, like in the good old days when everyone realised women were weak and didn't pretend to treat them equally.

I accept that, yes. And if she'd stopped at the end of the first sentence, fine.

But she didn't stop.

Okay. That's not my fault but fine - I get it.

If you’ve got her trapped

Hang on a minute... I haven't ... what... :?

WTF?

She's not saying that's what you're doing on purpose, she's saying that what her instincts are telling her, and there's nothing you can do about it ;)

You can't control your subconscious, otherwise it would be called your conscious.

But you can control some of how the conscious deals with the information from the sub-conscious.
