I prefer my solution. Yours suggests to me that the ball is under water, but the dog may not be. These are pictures of dogs under water, trying to get their balls back.

Many of those dogs are at the surface and not under it. In which case your correct analysis of my solution means that my solution is correct. (I really can't believe we're arguing about this.) [Edit] I forgot where we are; of course I can believe it. [Edit 2] GAH! We cross-posted so I didn't actually see your solutions. Yes yours work rather well. However I was trying to refrain from re-arrangement

I made it deliberately vague; making it more precise just takes the fun out of it, so mine's the best sentence.

I'd say he's only at stage 2, so we've got a while yet.

Extrapolating from a point i thought about a couple of weeks ago: why didn't the Matrix machines just build huge solar panels above the clouds, absolutely no need for any organic life at all then, silly Matrix machines. And once you have that energy source established, surely living on a spaceship is much better than living on a planet where the energy is difficult to reach.
They could have left the planet in peace, why were they interested in killing us off at all? I'm beginning to think it was all just an excuse for virtual kung fu.

I remember thinking along similar lines. They did say the sky was blotted out so the computers turned to humans but you're right. Once they had built a hovering cloudbase type thing, they'd have had loads of energy from the sun. Then they could have destroyed all humans.

Wibble wibble hatstand. Sorry, that's been amusing me since I read it in Private Eye the other day
