Would you say Linux is a good choice for graphics? ;)

Why so long?

Why so long?

Basically I'm hacking the standard Xubuntu GUI theme (Greybird).

The images used to make up the window borders are supposed to pick up the GTK theme colours. The basic borders are built from XPM files which are over-layed with PNGs to produce smooth gradients. The XPM images should be coded so that they use the current GTK theme palette. This means that when you change themes, the XPM images change accordingly.

Except that some ass-clown decided to do a half-arsed job on the Greybird theme. All but one of the colours have been hard-coded so that it looks hideous with other themes.

So I'm doing it properly. Which means that 40-odd PNGs all have to be redrawn and 40-odd XPMs all have to be re-coded.

That sounds like a proper PITA.
I hope you'll be thanked for picking up their slack!

In fairness though, they have made a corking theme that looks ace as long as you keep it stock. The trouble is though that they've done the anti-aliasing in the XPMs, which are supposed to be matte images with a palette of 11 colours.

Which means that all the transparency has to be re-done manually, pixel by pixel. And each pixel requires some fairly extensive hand-calcs.

At this rate, it'll take me about 8 weeks - I think I'm going to have to work out a way to get the computer to help me

Still three weeks left of winter in the UK by my reckoning, unless somebody has been fiddling with the vernal equinox.

That's as maybe, but there's daffs budding, trees waking up and birds canoodling. There's a change in the air, even if the calendar doesn't agree. :)

Morning all,

thanks everybody.

Funeral is set for Monday.

Bloody hell - that was quick.

Was her death expected then? :? (I rather fear I've forgotten something important...)

It is "normal" for the funeral to take place about 4 days after death here, as long as there are no legal technicalities and the body is released.

That said, she had a stroke in January and a lung infection and bronchitus the last couple of weeks and hadn't been able to eat or drink for over a week (I refered to it in the right to die thread).
