Good luck. It is great to have your own space, hopefully a bit less stress than everybody living under the same roof.

*sigh* I've not done this very well, have I?

We had to move because the landlady needed her flat back. So we are still all together, but in a nice, big, quiet, 2 bedroomed terraced house instead of a tiny flat next to the main road out of Northampton.

Being together isn't actually all that bad tbh - as long as we each get a little quiet sometimes. We met whilst living in a remote Christian community sharing space with eighty other people; only having one other is actually a luxury AFAIC. Besides, I try to keep in mind that in many societies and throughout history, it's been perfectly normal for young couples live with their parents - it's the US and UK that are odd.

Depends on the area, Bratty. I paid nearly that for a room in a 2 bed flat...

And my and the gf have a rented large 2 bed (could easily be 3 if the bathroom wasn't the same size as the 2nd bedroom) furnished house for a bit less than that

Can't get a 1 bed for that where I live. You'd struggle to get a studio for that sort of money.

Can't get a 1 bed for that where I live. You'd struggle to get a cupboard for that sort of money.

I looked into one bed flats a while ago.
I'm not keen to see 50% of my income go on rent, frankly.
