I want to know how long that coversation continued after he stopped the camera.

In a similar vein,I do remember a Technical Manager at my old firm arguing that a litre of oil would take up more space than a litre of water!

I did think that also.

Correction... I was hoping that was the case. Otherwise people that stupid really do exist.

She might as well have had the troll face mask on.

Talk from the Dutch Chief of Defense Staff Peter Van Uhm at November's TEDx

You may not agree with him (I kind of don't, to be honest) but his speech is as near to the definition of 'The Civilised Soldier' as I can think of. If we are to have 'rough men standing ready to do violence on our behalf', I hope they're like Peter Van Uhm.

Two of the funniest videos I have ever seen.

I can't watch them without absolutely crying with laughter.

Binocular Football - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4apzIH4- ... ata_player

Japanese Binocular Football - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aj7f3B1V ... ata_player

Seriously, I was in danger of being asked to shut up at work when I watched the first 20 seconds of the first video.

Well, the bit you edited is actually a quote attributed to George Orwell, but in fact it's origin is quite interesting (from wikiquote)

Quote:
We sleep peaceably in our beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.
This has commonly been attributed to Orwell but has not been found in any of his writings. Quote Investigator found the earliest known appearance in a 1993 Washington Times essay by Richard Grenier: "As George Orwell pointed out, people sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." The absence of quotation marks indicates Grenier was using his own words to convey Orwell's opinion; thus it may have originated as a paraphrase of his statement in "Notes on Nationalism" (1945): Those who "abjure" violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf. There are also similar sentiments expressed in an essay which Orwell wrote on Rudyard Kipling, quoting from one of Kipling's poems: "Yes, making mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep."

It is of course more famously used by Jack Nicholson's character in the film 'A Few Good Men'.
