Rather that than some of the expensive crap knockoff gear ;)

I've a funny feeling that something you or me would snap in two in frustration would be fine for kids or an older person, for instance.

Actually, I kind of think the opposite is true. Us techys have been worn down over the years to expect gadgets not to work properly, put the effort in to figure out why not, and to fix them. Most people haven't had that. They just expect gadgets to work. This tablet, if it was my parents or my brother they'd have sent it back. If it was my nephew, it'd be in bits within days.
