I have recieved this years bonus and SWMBO has authorised me to buy a new laptop (I think its because she wants my old(ish) one to do her school work (she is a teacher and not a pupil by the way ). My budget is currently ~£800 pounds. Requirements moderate gaming (total war, CCS. If it could play BF3 that would be a bonus ), office, browsing and photo manipulation Any suggestions on what to get and what not to get? Ive looked at this: clicky

Acer have a ridiculous range of laptops in various outlets, cheap and decent with almost any spec you want if you look around...

The first one has an expensive high end CPU, but a low end very slow HDD. Even if you can't get an SSD, a 7200rpm drive would make it feel faster in day to day use than a 5400rpm one.

I'd take a look at the Dell Outlet: http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/Inve ... &cs=ukdfh1Their stuff is usually reasonably priced. I picked up an Alienware m11x for around £550, which wasn't bad considering a brand new similar spec would have been £850.

I've you are anywhere near either Cheshire Oaks or Ashford in Kent, there are two Toshiba outlet stores (yes, I work for Toshiba). Worth a butchers as they have some very good prices.

After some soul searching (and the fact the car needs two back tires) I finally went for this one
Acer Aspire 5755G Screen size - 15.6 in Processor - Intel Core i7 2630QM - 2.2 GHz RAM - 6 GB Hard Drive - 750 GB Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) Optical Drive - DVD Super Multi Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M Optimus Graphics Memory - 1 GB GDDR3
I plan to buy a faster hard drive and replace the installed one as the main drive. I could have got a better one and more expensive one but for once in my life I let the head over rule the heart!
