My brother was stabbed last week. It was a very savage attack but he survived, after spending many hours in surgery, and is now back at home. He will need further surgery, but should make a full recovery. Full respect to the brilliant surgeons, who saved his life. The police arrested the perpetrator, who apparently has previous for knife crime. Anyway, little bruv has told me the perp's missus/girlfriend contacted him and had the cheek to offer him a few grand to drop the charges. Needless to say, her offer was declined, and he suggested a place she might put the money; using more colourful language. I am completely staggered by balls of this woman, and I'm sure what she has done is very illegal.

Firstly, woah! Glad your brother is as alright as he could be Secondly, I'd add that to any statement handed to the police...

Take the money then use it as evidence, pretty sure it's illegal to bribe someone and it could be added to the charges.

+1 Any witnesses / Proof by any chance? "attempting to pervert the course of justice", "attempted bribery and corruption" I believe the charges would be.

Gods that's awful, I hope he continues to make a good recovery.
Definitely he should make a statement to the Police about the contact, although likely she will deny it so if it was by phone then he should make sure he has a copy of his phone records detailing the date and time that he was called.

OMG, some bad things have been happening to forumites lately. I'm seriously glad to hear your bother is OK and should recover fully. I cannot believe the woman, a few grand to drop the charges? What a complete joke. Definitely tell him keep the text and show it to the police. Also tell your brother to get well soon.

Good shout on the phone records, Zippy, it may prove stronger than just his word.
He was stabbed in the neck and at the base of the skull, though neither of those wounds caused quite as much damage as you'd expect, thankfully; and surprisingly. Although, for a finishing flourish, his attacker did stick the carving knife right through his forearm, severing the artery and damaging tendons, which is what caused the massive blood loss and why he needs further surgery.
Thanks to you all for your good wishes, I will pass them on.
Regards
Spreadie

I don't think so. Three guys started on his mate, so little bruv waded in to help him, but there were two other guys waiting in the wings, one with a baseball bat and the other with a carving knife. BTW 'little bruv' is over 6ft and I'm 5'7"

I'm sure there are laws against either bribing or intimidating witnesses/victims. Did he report that to the police too? I hope so.

Seconded. I hope they put the perp away. Get the date/time of the bribe attempt noted down too, and tell the Police.

Lose the phone records, take the payment in cash, don't sign anything and press the charges anyway.
Probably not legal (?) but who cares, rinse them for everything they have.
People like this should be sentenced to a life (meaning until they die) of torture. Maybe that would act as a deterrent. Or maybe prison should mean solitary confinement.
