Went shopping in Birmingham today and was surprised to see shops seeingly emulating the Apple retail experience. Currys -- a shop called Black? -- although not as minimalist as the Apple store and a Three store both bore striking similarities IMO.

I just got this email at work...

Quote:
With immediate effect:

The installation of new Fire Assembly Point (FAP) signs has just been completed.

There are now only 3 Fire Assembly Points (FAP) – please see the attached site diagram (PDF).

Please familiarise yourself and any visitors with the location of the FAPs.

In order to improve site awareness; printed copies of the attached PDF will be available in the Restaurant & at the Main Gate later today.

FAP1 Is located outside the Kingsley Dunham Building (KDB) adjacent to Reception – for occupants of KDB / LB1 / LB2

FAP2 Is located in the concourse opposite the Staff Restaurant & Meeting Rooms (SRMR) – for occupants of GiH / SRMR / JHB

FAP3 Is located in the paved court yard area – behind William Smith Building (WSM) – for occupants of WSB / NGR / LB3 / LB4 / PS / EF1 / ST1

I've just shown Evan Davies around the depot and told him what to say and point at. The BBC are doing a documentary on infrastructure and a small portion of it will include the ERTMS system up here :D

Didn't get my mug on camera though :P

Why do people ask for your advice and then ignore it?

My sister is picking up her new car tomorrow. Her old car has two weeks of road tax left and four weeks before the MOT expires. Given that we don't know if it will pass the MOT, I told her to leave it it in Norfolk and come down by train. Back where she lives, she could get it pre-MOT'd and and then decide whether to sell/trade in/scrap it. She could easily SORN it. As it stands, she drove down. The car will be left on the road, the tax disc will expire and she probably won't be able to get it to pass the MOT. She'll then incur fines when it is ticketed by the new warden round here.

Silly cow.

The worrying thing is that I reckon this sister is the brainiest of all three of us.

You should always listen to advice when requested or offered, but to follow it blindly is asking for trouble.
