Ok, to those of you who answered outdoor:
Do you currently give any consideration to the socks you wear for these activities? Do you spend any money on specific socks for the task, or are you reading this going, "James is totally mental, he's finally gone Bratty and it's all about socks!"?

I do know a person that bought expensive socks from a hiking shop for walking and climbing in.

If I got back into it (it's been a while) I'd definitely look at Icebreak socks (and all the rest of their kit). It's seriously good stuff.

I picked up some Heat Holder socks at xmas and have been very happy with them for diving and hiking. Very warm, durable, don't retain odours and very cheap.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I swore by Thorlo socks for hiking in. Bloomin' awesome they were. Not cheap, but I didn't regret spending the cash once I was using them.
