At least cash-strapped UK have no chance.

So instead of the Balkan or old Soviet voting for each other they vote for someone they don't like. We might just win it then.

Well done Englebert. That's saved a few quid.

We do still contribute to the broadcasting costs though yes? The competition is part funded by the hosting nation and part funded by contributions from each competitor, with the 'big five' making up the biggest portion of that.
Be interested to know how much we pay to be ignored...
Update: The only declared figure I can find is from 2008, when there was an early day motion in parliament to withdraw funding. At that point, the funding requirement was £175,000. Given the EBU has expanded since then, you'd assume the funding costs have expanded too. Be really conservative and say double it? £350K? Not really a whole lot in TV funding terms. In fact, probably less than the BBC pays Graham Norton to sit watching a screen in some studio somewhere making pithy comments about it. Certainly not much for most of a Saturday night's content on BBC1.

++ It's a farce. The fact that we still take part raises questions in my mind. It's clearly obvious that the voting is political, and even countries that once threw us a few points are now not doing so.

Make a freedom of information request? If they tell you what the budget is on Orange squash what is the worst that could happen?
