Derby fire deaths: Mick and Mairead Philpott in court


	Quote: The parents of six children who died in a house fire in Derby have appeared in court charged with their murder. Mick Philpott, 55, and his wife Mairead, 31, confirmed their names at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court. Jade Philpott, 10, and brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jessie, six and Jayden, five, died in the house fire on Victory Road on 11 May. Duwayne, 13, died three days later.

These are the people who blubbed out on TV a few days ago.

I get rather cynical about police press conferences where relatives of victims appeal for help. A lot of times, they are the very people who end up arrested, charged and convicted. I wonder if this is a police tactic to gain a confession or to watch their body langauge.

I have my doubts. From what I know they're lifetime benefit scroungers. Why would they do something that would result in a smaller house and less income?
(Unless they thought they could get money from interviews etc.)

Well, they've been charged with murder, so that suggests intent to kill the children; or the charge would be manslaughter, surely?

Yes, but innocent until proven guilty. I still can't see why myself. What motive could they possibly have?

I guess we'll see what happens but when I found out they'd been arrested it honestly came as no surprise to me.
