I was shocked when I saw this story in the news; my daughter has been a nursery worker since finishing her college course last year..... I just can't get my head round why someone would do such a cruel despicable act and I think it makes it worse in my head that it's a woman.

When I spoke to my daughter about it this morning she was about to leave for work and was very upset and really didn't want to go as parents at her nursery were asking a lot of questions and the atmosphere was very depressing.

Hope she gets a good beating in prison. If that were my child, I'd hunt her down if she ever got out.

The only thing "positive" about this is it shows how women can be paedophiles just as much as men can, hopefully destigmatising men working in nursery/primary school.

You cant say women are paedophiles as much as men though, there's not as many of them.

I'd lose my temper at that over reactive crap "what 'cause one weirdo in one nursery somewhere was a peadophile you think suddenly we're gonna have one"

Nothing annoys me more than people who just get frightened by everything they read in the news, daft [LIFTED].

This shows the one major flaw with the police checks for people who work with children. If they have no previous convictions etc, then they get through the checks. That's no one's fault, it's just the way it is.

Not really a flaw..as what is the alternative ? Crystal Balls ? It weeds out those who have already commited some kind of offense which surprisingly is a great number of weird people.

That's not what I'm getting at. There appears to be this common misconception that women don't rape and aren't paedophiles. Men are perceived to do such acts because of the number of reported cases. Cases by women go largely unreported. I'm just glad that this event shows women are capable of such acts, breaking the illusion of 'children are safe with women'.

In English law it's actually technically impossible for a woman to rape anyone, since rape involves "penetration". :?

Sexual Offences Act 2003 wrote:
(1) A person (A) commits an offence if—

(a) he intentionally penetrates the vagina, anus or mouth of another person (B) with his penis,

(b) B does not consent to the penetration, and

(c) A does not reasonably believe that B consents.

This means that a rapist will always be male. Think it needs to change to 'sexual intercourse with another person without their consent'.

Well yeah, hence I said only men can technically commit rape. Also, by definition doesn't "intercourse" imply penetration? The definition would have to be changed to "sexual act" or something, but then you're getting too close to sexual assault territory. TBH the whole Sexual Offences Act seems to be highly male-orientated (ie. a fair few offences involve "penetration").
