Painkillers!

I am currently struggling with a massive headache AND gallbladder pain :( I took migraleve 3 hours ago which has taken the edge off the head pain and stopped me feeling sick, but hasn't even tickled the gall pain.

I've now taken codipar for the gall pain which has taken the edge off that pain but I still have the headache.

How do my painkillers know which bit of pain they are supposed to work on? Also, why don't they work universally? surely codeine is the same regardless of which drug it's in?

I suspect when you talk about gallbladder pain, you're talking about biliary colic? Opiates don't work as well for these as they're known to cause sphincter spasm. Better to use NSAIDs, which would also help with headaches.

I have a massive gall stone which is taking up about 90% of the space inside the bladder itself. Every once in a while my gall bladder tries to do it's job and I get a quite intense amount of pain until it gives it up as a bad job. I'm waiting for an op to remove the whole thing but until then I've been given codipar to take care of the pain, it does work on the gall bladder pain, I just wondered why it doesn't work on the headache when it's just Paracetamol and Codeine, same as the Migraleve?

Thanks, it's mostly just a bit of an inconvenience, but that all fades into the background at 2am when I can't lie down and I can't sit up and the pain is making me catch my breath :(
Can't wait to get it out and done with!

I haven't even been tipsy in years (that little buzz is enough for me, hence vodka) :)

The shoulder thing is because I've got a fcuked-up back in general...
