I brought more teabags in with me today and all is well on that front. I am now responsible for making sure that 25 desks are re-shuffled in terms of both their occupants and contents in 4 days next week

Describing yourself or Zippy? If it's Zippy you're talking about, she mentioned the other day that she'd run out of tea bags, so brining more in would be the "normal" thing to do. If you're describing yourself, what can I say? Old news, son! :etc:

That's not to say that I don't have OCD, just that it's not the case in this instance Or perhaps it's the desk shuffling he's referring to?

Possibly, but either I've got a "well good" imagination or I do actually remember you mentioning recently that this was something you had to do as it's a part of your job? Am I making it up or was I actually paying attention? I don't know whether to laugh or cry... :etc:

Something I came across when I was sorting through my 'My Documents' folder, dates back to Sept 2008, and when the LHC was big news. Below is the full thing I wrote, yeah, I know about all the spelling errors and stuff, cba to change them: | | | | Quote: Is the world going to end when the LHC is turned on?
In a word ..... no.
Today at 8:30am (English time) the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) was turned on, basically this is going to attempt to find out what happened a trillionth of a second after the big bang, to see how our universe was created, it is also going to search for a substance known as dark matter, so far all attempts to find this 'dark matter' have been fruitless, we know this stuff exists because normal matter only makes up about 27% of space, so where is all the rest, well thats what the LHC is going to find out. And a few more things they will try to find out: * What happened in the instant after the Big Bang, where matter was created from pure energy? * Are there any more dimensions beyond the four we already know about? * Does the Higgs Boson exist? * Does Dark Matter exist?
Right a few little figures to boggle your minds: *When the LHC is running full speed the particles will complete 11,000 laps of the 17mile collider in...wait for it..... 1 SECOND!!! *The particles are speed up to 99.9999991% of the speed of light. *600,000,000 particle collisions will take place every second using 1,600 magnets to focus the particles. *100,000 times hotter than the core of the sun - the heat generated when the beams of protons meet in the LHC. *The project has so far taken 14 years, £4.4bn ($7.8bn), and the efforts of 10,000 researchers.
Ok, what happens when the particles collide? Well, I don't know, infact no one does at the moment, that's what the LHC is for, 90% of the scientists involved believe that black holes will be formed when the particles collide, and this has got many people into the belief that the world is going to end as teh black holes formed will suck the world in and that'll be it...pooooof, and the world is gone. But this is simply no the case, the black holes formed (even if they are in teh first place) will not be large enough or powerful enough to destroy anything, oh and the fact that they will only last a few billionths of a second.
Another reason why the world is not going to end today, the first full speed run of the LHC is not untill next month, one run has been done today, this is to line up the particles so that they will hit each other (each particle being 2mm in radius, that takes a lot of lining up), only thing is, the speed of the particles was less than 1% of machines possible speed.
Right time for a little bit of info about the certain elements being looked for: *Higgs boson: It is a theoretical particle that will allow physicists to link the force of gravity to the strong force, weak force and electromagnetic force. They know from the equations what size it is etc... but the thing is because the particle is so big it will be unstable and disperse into smaller particles before they can actually see it. *Are there anymore dimensions beyond the four already known: Well obvioulsy I can't answer this, due to the fact I lack time travel to find out the answer to thier tests, but hopefully this will provide the answer.
Furthermore, after the tests are completed it would take 12 mile high stacks of DVDs to store the data (in its smallest form), and will take 80,000 computers a year to analyse the data, so any results (finer details) of thier tests won't be known for another year.
Right, glad I got that down, it's been bugging me, all the peopl ewho think the world is going to end, geez, do some research first...
Seb

I used to go bat hunting once or twice a month, we didn't hunt them, just went out to find them. Was really cool, sitting out places listening for them, we had 'special' bat detectors, which seemed much better at picking up crickets than they did bats... We had some guy come and give a talk to us about them, he had some dead ones which he kept in boxed, the only one I remember was the long-eared bat, and either a long-haired bat, or a short-haired bat...
