It seems the other way round to me. Then again most of the people I know that use consoles are girls. For some reason girls seem to really like the Wii. As for myself I have never played a game on a console, though I would not mind having a go on a Wii. I did play my way through Tomb Raider 2 once upon a time. The big put off was the number of hours learning how to use the controls. CC

This is true, but being able to count all of the good wii games on half a hand doesn't help. The missus and I played all 3 good games and then sold it. Fortunately we sold it before people realised how bad it was. Now they are sat on pallets in the local Tesco gathering dust. I've had a 360, a Wii and a PS3. The PS3 was the only one worth keeping.

competitions? Sounds like you kickbox, or some other martial art. (if you can call kick boxing a martial art) And again I think this is a situation where a physical entity is required in order to not mess up your bodies reflex and sensation feedback loops. I like the concept, but only if a game can use it in moderation, I'll be getting myself one of those steering wheels once Forza 3 and GT 5 are released ( and I get a desk big enough). Joe

Nintendo are advertising far more than Microsoft advertise their console. Somewhere right at the back are Sony.
Ninty is winning this one - their audience aren’t game junkies looking for more realistic ways to blow their opponents into ray traced pixels. Look at the audience Nintendo are going after. A totally different demographic, and they are winning because of this.
The hardware is not important. Again, it’s the software which is making the difference. Microsoft and Sony are trying to play catchup, but their game plans in this area are very limited as, really, they don’t appear to have thought about who the audience really is.

Except that the PS3 appeals to hardcore gamers (as does the 360), I would have thought that was an important demographic, no? Sony are suffering from a similar problem as Microsoft at the moment, namely they can't seem to be able to kill the PS2 much like MS can't seem to kill XP.

I'd guess that hard-core gamers spend more on their hardware and buy more games, so yes they're important to the likes of Sony. However, they're vastly outnumbered by casual gamers. That includes old ladies playing Sudoku on their DS, and little girls jumping up and down on a flowery dance mat. It also includes my old mate and his 5 year old playing Zelda on their Wii, who happen to be the only people I really know my age with a console!* *OK that sentence is very flawed, but kinda accurate. I'm 38 with a mental age of 5, and you good ex-CPC folk are mostly hard-core so don't count.
