Can I just say this - '[LIFTED] me, Saturday night TV at the mo is weaker than American beer'.

Yes, it was rather good, wasn't it?! Hope they keep the quality over the rest of the episodes.

Just watched ep 1 of Life On Mars USA. Either I'm missing something, or the Americans are. I suspect the latter.
Also, far too distracted by Michael Imperioli's fake facial hair. He looks ridiculous.

Catching up with The Big Bang Theory at the moment, and absolutely loving it.

Hmmm... I really have tried with TBBT but something just jars. I somehow get the impression that the only person on set with the brainpower to understand the script is Kaley Cuoco.

I love TBBT, but it's strange how dated the early episodes seem. I saw the first one for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I guess perhaps it's not so much dated, as they hadn't gotten into the swing of it properly. In other words, it just gets better.

+1. I saw the early eps a few months back and everything is much more rigid. I think it's season two when people have an idea of what's going on.

I'll go as far as saying that, for me, it's pretty much the zenith of comedy TV writing. As I'm sure some of you know, Sheldon's 'girl friend' in the later series holds a PhD in Neuroscience.

A friend of mine once described TBBT as 'The way a bunch of arts graduate comedy writers think geeks behave'. Obviously, there's a degree of exaggeration and stereotyping required in comedy, you have to paint in broad strokes. But compare they way TBBT portrays it's protagonists to say the way Spaced did (which actually was written by a bunch of self-proclaimed geeks) and you'll see there's a world of difference. I think TBBT is good solid comedy and I admire their attention to detail but 'the zenith of comedy TV writing'? No no no no no. It's maybe as good as anything being done right this minute but there are shows from history that make it look rather simplistic and clumsy. Jon
