YouView - an internet TV service that combines the UK's Freeview channels with on-demand content - has been formally launched.

Users will have access to programmes broadcast over the previous week from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel Five, as well as the ability to pause and rewind live TV.

So, basically, a Freeview recorder. I wonder how much it will cost.

Quote:
Lord Sugar, the project's non-executive chairman, showed off a set-top box made by Humax which will allow users to access the service.

He said it would cost £299, but added that he would not be surprised if that fell to £99 in a couple of years.

Ah - and I see they have Mr Amstrad onboard. That’s clearly going to succeed then.

I just wish Samsung would put an ITV player and 4OD app on their smart TV's.

I have a brand new Humax Freeview PVR connected to the internet. What would be nice is a firmware upgrade to bring the YouView features to the box. But they will want to sell new boxes so it probably won't happen.

Far as I know, a cheap second-hand console from either of the only two companies that matter would cover that and let you play games too ;)
