Just comms. However, ERTMS is in-cab signalling :D

They could definitely bring them all up to 5 car sets, but that's still not a lot. They are numbered 'a' to 'f', so I'm not sure if that suggests you could run a 6 car set, but I've never seen more than 5 without them doubling up. They do have a few HSTs that are by no means empty when they run.
