How many massacres will it take for them to have proper gun control?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

The press will probably love that 'gas mask' connection...

It is ridiculous, isn't it? Problem is, while the criminal element have easy access to guns, everyone else wants one to make them feel safer. If guns are removed, it is likely to be the criminal element that manages to keep hold of them. Of course, they don't seem to realise that their gun crime rate is nearly five times higher than any other first world country, and there is even huge opposition to the things like microstamping, which would only be used in the event of illegal gun use... Idiot Republicans.

I think you'll find your use of the word 'idiot' is rather redundant there...

Yeah, it outlines the entire film in detail before going on about some gun play or something.

Seriously America, sort your [LIFTED] out. The Virginia Tech massacre was only in 2007. 5 years on, and here's another one.
If you can't play nicely, then you shouldn't be allowed to have your toys out.

I'm surprised after TDK there wasn't an increase in knife crime in relation to the film.

To be fair, Canada has roughly the same gun laws as the US, and you don't hear about all of the massacres in Canada because they just don't happen. It is a culture problem rather than a law problem.

Now that is not suggesting that a good culture just won't have gun/massacre problems, but is suggesting that a knee jerk reaction to the gun laws may not necessarily solve anything.

No, but a sensible approach to gun ownership would certainly be an improvement. How many massacres does it take before they're going to start saying 'Hey, you know what? Maybe we shouldn't allow guns for everyone who wants one. Maybe that's a bad idea. Maybe we need to think about the number of guns owned in the country."

Exactly how many people need to die before calling for gun control laws isn't a knee jerk reaction but a rational response?

How many legally owned guns are used in gun crime though? Changing the law won't make an ounce of difference to the drug dealers and gang members.

Your sensible may not be my sensible, who defines sensible?

compare this to the swiss experience

Quote:
In some 2001 statistics, it is noted that there are about 420,000 assault rifles stored at private homes, mostly SIG SG 550 types. Additionally, there are some 320,000 semi-auto rifles and military pistols exempted from military service in private possession,

Quote:
Police statistics for the year 2006[14] records 34 killings or attempted killings involving firearms, compared to 69 cases involving bladed weapons and 16 cases of unarmed assault. Cases of assault resulting in bodily harm numbered 89 (firearms) and 526 (bladed weapons). As of 2007, Switzerland had a population of about 7,600,000. This would put the rate of killings or attempted killings with firearms at about one for every quarter million residents yearly. This represents a decline of aggravated assaults involving firearms since the early 1990s. The majority of gun crimes involving domestic violence are perpetrated with army ordnance weapons, while the majority of gun crime outside the domestic sphere involves illegally held firearms.
