I just heard that the Red Arrows flew over Belfast City Hall today. Really? *shrug*
This perfectly exemplifies my I-don't-know-anything-about-these-games, burying-my-head-in-the-sand mentality.
I think it's a great moment for London, but it means nothing to me.

I hope London doesn't screw this up, because a huge amount of the population of the world will be watching.

Mark

TBH I have been paying attention and I only just found out they were over-flying anywhere other than the stadium itself (which apparently isn't going to be shown on television anyway. WTF?).

Actually, I'm always kind of sceptical of the 'billions of people will be tuning in' thing. For starters it's the middle of the sodding night for a big chunk of the world and it's not as if everyone in the world even has access to a TV. Plus It's only the opening ceremony anyway. Even the people who are interested are really more interested in the sport, in the main. Maybe a few hundred million - which, OK, is a lot but as a percentage of the world's population not so much.

I wasn't referring to the opening ceremony, I was talking about the whole of the games in total.
There's still going to be a whole heck-of-a-lot of people watching.

And Kenneth Branaugh wearing Bradley Wiggins sideburns.

You can also really tell which bits of the music Underworld wrote...

And you have to say, the 'forging of the Olympic rings' is a fantastic image.

I know every one of the songs they've played in the 'british music' segment. I'm not sure if that makes me a sad old git or not...
