will they be collectable in a few years?

Unlikely, they do print quite a lot of them :). Having said that I probably have got a few front pages from the really massive events that have happened over the last couple of decades in a box somewhere...

Oh.... and what the hell happened at the start of Hey Jude ??? I recorded the whole thing and haven't watched any of it again yet but I think his band started the song about 4 bars before Macca did !
I think there was a mixup in which feed to use and consequently we ended up getting two separate feeds at the same time.
To me it seemed like we got the direct feed we'd been having all evening as well as a slightly delayed satellite feed.
You can tell it wasn't the band starting early because if you listen closely to the bit where everything syncs together it was just the dropping of the 'wrong' feed, then it all becomes intelligible again.

It sounded to me like his performance was due to be heavily "tracked" but someone, either Macca or the drummer started at the wrong time.

I would need to go back and watch his bit again, but it looked last night like the his vocal we heard to the last few bars of the opening bit didn't quite match his lips. Then when the double audio was heard for Hey Jude, I just assumed they had gotten out of sync with the track.

Now it could be that they were using "support" tracking for his vocal performance to "thicken" the sound for the size of the stadium, or they could have listened to the Jubilee Concert and decided to go "the full Britney".

It has to be said that the audio mix from the Jubilee Concert on TV was the worst broadcast sound I have ever heard. Was it better live for the audience or for the performers? I couldn't say, but it did feel like Annie Lenox also struggled so the monitoring could have been as poor the sound we heard. If so, then maybe Macca has some defense, certainly when he played Liverpool a couple of years ago people I know who saw him said he was in fine voice.

I just don't understand why they felt they needed anything after the flame. That was an iconic, top of the night, blackout, goodnight moment. Anything after that was going to be a comedown.

Still, a great night all in all and I have actually bought the album I was so impressed.

No, it was Macca.

He started singing and everyone started singing with him but then he started again and so caused a massive c*ck up. Then he realised he had messed up and stopped singing for a line so he could come back in time with everyone else.

He really is completely useless. He used to be good but really someone should tell him to bow out gracefully (maybe it's too late for that).

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I for one loved every second of it. :D

We had it streaming on my laptop, perched on my godson's high chair, sat out in the garden, a full spread of meats, cheese & bubbles and a bunch of friends round.

From the off we had the Red Arrows storming directly overhead 8-) and it just built and built - loved it.

I was apprehensive from the previews of the farmyard chintz, but I was wrong to judge so early, the rolling timeline unfolding through the decades, was just well, spectacular, and wonderfully put together. There were some slow points - the whole teenage-love affair thing was a bit meh - but the medley of some of music's greatest genre-defining tunes, the cast involved, the lighting, the pyrotechnics, the video clips, the buildup-images, the set, the cauldron, the choice of the young athletes, was all superb. 8-)

I've always been a proud Englishman - and although a bit of an Olympic sceptic - I have to say, I think last night did us all proud. ;)

I was looking more at the GREAT BRITAIN worn by the woman at the lower right.

Only if you subscribe to outdated titles of privilege.
