But you would still have the crappy voice from Andy Serkis.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Meh. They pretty much did that with The Return Of The King prolog.

Gollum is more annoying to me than Jar Jar Binks

I would hope not. Looking at casting etc, I suspect what they are adding/showing is what Gandalf goes off and does with the other wizards regarding Sauron, which would do a lot more to set up what is to come in LOTR.

I also thought the trailer looked... suspect, particularly how they have done the dwarves. But then, the Hobbit is a children's book, LOTR isn't. I was quite surprised, rereading it, just how cartoonishly everything is described and how unlike the middle earth recorded everywhere else it is. Which is a shame. Definitely going to be difficult to take seriously...

A bit like the Tom Bombadil chapter in Fellowship ;)

What struck me was the po-faced atmosphere in the trailer - where was the excitement of a fairytale adventure where nothing really matters? - it feels like the whole LOTR films got stuck in that mindset of the last few chapters where everything is fading away and dying - yes that's a big part of the book, but there's also magic and wizards and monsters and there should be way more excitement and fun (by which I don't mean epic CGI battles). Hopefully The Hobbit will be more fun, and more character-level-focussed than LOTR, and less "epic".

Unfortunately they seem to be trying to bill it as LOTR 2.

A slightly more reasoned article about what could possibly be included which has stretched the book to three films.

There's only so much of this wizard/elf stuff I can take before bits of my brain tells me that I've seen it all before and, really, I don't need any more of it. I was looking outward to a Hobbit film, but this seems to be taking the thing to homeopathic strengths.

I guess Lego and GamesWorshop will be happy that there's a trilogy worth of merchandise to market.

Today, I am feeling "cynical".

+1

I would be happy with a single 3 hour max. film.
