An out of the blue question.

If you were to hit the deck now and your life depended on it, how many push-ups could you do?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I know right now off the top of my head that I could knock out 30 minimum, so I voted accordingly.

However, I imagine if my life genuinely depended on it, I could probably do a fair few more.

As far as the thread title goes, I'm still not terribly fit and was definitely in better overall shape when I was skiing every day. But the number of push ups I can do til exhaustion is unchanged.

I'd probably nudge a little over 20.
When I was going to gym regularly I'd do 3 sets to exhaustion each time, and they'd average slightly over 20, so given the drop off, 20-ish sounds a safe bet.

I've started doing two reps (one morning, one evening) of 40 press ups and 40 sit ups (the situs only in the evening) as well as two climbing sessions a week.
I never really push my fitness as I know what I need to do to achieve my goals.
I've not really tested my pushups to the point of exhaustion.

I know I can hit 50 in one set, but anything more is anyone's guess.

Of course the term fitness is a little subjective (ability to recover from exercise) so single reps probably isn't the best choice, but I chose one random thing (possibly in my favour) where as it could have easily been how fast you could run a mile etc.

I easily used to do about 100 without a break, and about 500 in about 10 mins or so. Long time ago. Even when I was weightlifting, I could probably do 10-20 after exercising chest/triceps.

I will try sometime soon once I've recovered from this cold but reckon I could only do 10 at the most. Sit ups used be similar - used to loads, along with squats - all as part of martial arts training.

True story.

Standards have fallen around here!

See aerobic exercise and myself don't tend to get on too well. Push ups are relatively easy for me, when compared with running, swimming or anything requiring lots of breathing. Skiing seems fine, although the harder and faster I push it, the more fatigue I get in my quads, but that's poor technique as much as lack of fitness.

I do girlie press-ups every week during Aero-Tone, 3 sets of 15 reps with varying speed and I can manage them ok (although my knees hurt afterwards) I have recently discovered I can do 40 sit-ups in a row, bit I prefer crunches, they make my muscles ache more so I know they're getting a work out!

Never been able to do push-ups. I used to manage about 100 situps, but only about 10 push-ups.

Likewise, I do 15 minutes cross traininer, then an hour and a half weights, then 20 minutes cool-down on the bike, but I still can't do push-ups...
