Only golds matter for the table.

I'm pretty sure Russia would vehemently disagree.

So if two countries had 30 golds each, but one had 20 silver and the other 18 silver, then would they still be equally placed on the table?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

No, gold counts more than silver hitch counts more than bronze.

Like pounds and pence.

Except no amount of silver will outdo a gold and like wise with bronze to silver.

Ie one gold, no silver and no bronze comes ahead of no gold 45 silver and 50 bronze.

So if two teams have 5 golds the one with the most silver would place higher.

36 Gold
33 Silver
31 Bronze
100 Medals Total
3rd Overall

Using my two nationalities together doesn't improve the overall standing. :( ;)

There's no such thing as an 'official' IOC medals table.

Quote:
The Olympic Games are competitions between athletes in individual or team events and not between countries
-The Olympic Charter, C.1 s.6

Quote:
The IOC and the OCOG shall not draw up any global ranking per country.
-The Olympic Charter, C.5 s.58

Quote:
"I believe each country will highlight what suits it best. One country will say, 'Gold medals.' The other country will say, 'The total tally counts.' We take no position on that."
- Jacques Rogge

I thought that was a bit of a turning point for the closing ceremony tbh. Up to that point it felt rather bland, almost what you'd expect an Olympic ceremony to be like - a ceremony designed by a committee. After Idle's appearance it rather kicked up a gear. It still didn't match the opening ceremony but then it would have been a miracle if it had. Taken in isolation it was a better than average example of an Olympic 'bash', just it was rather unlucky to be being compared to the best opening ceremony ever....

I think it was one of the laziest ceremonies we've seen - a ceremony-by-numbers. And most of the world are presumably thinking most of our musical output is made by a collection of OAP, on a perpetual SAGA break who drop back in to Blighty to knock out a tune occasionally whenever the nation needs it.
