I was 7 and attending the village primary school. I don't remember the news at all. I always thought he dissipated long before that!

One thing I have noticed though; we're all older than we used to be!

I would also have been seven. I don't remember his death as such, but I do remember seeing the news report of his funeral on television.

On the note of what I was doing when famous people die, I can say this.

When I heard of Kurt Cobain's death I was driving to a girlfriend's house.

When I heard of Princess Di's death I was awoken at an unearthly hour on a Sunday morning with a hangover by my dad. Seriously, she would have still been dead a few hours later!!!

As to other deaths, well I don't know really. Nothing has stuck in my mind as the one's I've mentioned have done.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I seem to remember I was at my Mum's house. Not entirely sure why. Perhaps it was the interval between moving out of where I was living in preparation for going to university. *shrug*

I quite remember the Diana death. I was really peeved off at the time. We had cable TV and there was some show I wanted to watch at 10am but couldn't because they'd cancelled it to air news about Diana. Like the other 99 channels were doing!

I remember coming down the stairs and everybody else was in the living room when Di died - I understood why it made an impact but I didn't care at the time. There's still an awful lot of questions over her death, but I'm not sure of motive.

I was in work during 9/11 and 7/7, watching TV and getting net updates respectively. It's actually amazing how the simple size of a TV or what's basically a text update can affect your perception and imagination of an atrocity. Though we've a funny relationship with terrorism over here anyway ;)

Fo the Sept. the 11th attack I was also in work.
Some kid (I was IT tech. in a school) showed me a clip on the 'net of the plane hitting one of the buildings and I thought it was a really well done bit of CGI.
When I realised it was actually happening, the school network virtually stopped responding as everyone in the school with a computer attempted to get a working video feed.
