A pioneer of space travel.
He shall be remembered.

The real tragedy is that his first steps on the Moon have not been used as a bridgehead for human activities there. The Moon missions got more frivolous as time went on - including playing golf.

The best tribute would be a fully functional lunar base named in his honour.

This may yet happen. Yes, it's sad it hasn't happened yet, but isn't China going to the Moon soon?

India, I think. And the US is planning to go back, but not before 2015 when the Orion project finally gets off the ground.

The sad thing is that I'm sure I'll live in an age when no one alive has walked on the moon. I'll bet the rest will die before we send somebody back.

A Song On The Subject

Did we fly to the moon too soon?
    Did we squander the chance?
In the rush of the race
    The reason we chased
    was lost in romance
And still we try to justify the waste
Of the taste of man's greatest adventure

And when we shoot for the stars
    What a giant step
have we got what it takes
To carry the weight of this concept?
Or pass it by as a shot in the dark
    That hit the mark
    With a sense of adventure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
And the dream that died with the Eagle's flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
When I wonder why are the seas still dry?
    Don't blame this sleeping satellite

A sad loss to mankind

Think the first moonbase will either belong to China or India.

would be a bit random if his last words were "The sceptics were right, the moon landing really was fake and staged"
