Another day, another problem...
We have a bunch of new Motorola MC9090 scanners and a Windows 2008R2 Terminal Server. The client has been testing the scanners (areound 2,000€ each) against a test Windows 2008R2 TS server for a month or so and everything was fine.
Last week, they tried to activate the Terminal Server and added the User CALs to the server and everything stopped working.
The problem lies in the versioning...
The MC9090s use Windows CE 5 and have RDP 5.1 installed.
Microsoft found out that 512-bit certificates were not save a while back and updated them to 2048-bit keys.
The problem is, RDP 5.1 doesn't understand 2048-bit keys and reports a security problem and refuses to connect to the server.
This means a complete logistics centre cannot book products in or out.
What is needed is a RDP 5.2 or newer client for the scanners or an upgrade to Windows CE 6. But we are getting stonewalled by the wholesaler and Motorola about possible solutions to the problem.
Does anyone have a similar experience with older versions of RDP on Windows CE not working with new CALs? And how did you get around the problem? (Other than upgrading the devices.)

The answer from Motorola is, the devices are sold with Windows CE5 and work. If we want to use them against current versions of Microsoft Windows, that is our problem and we should take it up with Microsoft!
We are most likely sending them back.
